Who we are
Bill Pal is run by David Hooper Home Limited, trading as DH Website Services, in Pontypridd, Wales. We are the data controller for the information below. You can reach us through our contact page.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, your first name, and an anonymous ID from Apple if you sign in with Apple.
- Bills you post: the supplier, amount, due date, account reference, bill period, your town or city, how many people live with you, the note you write, and the photo of the bill.
- Help you give: the bills you chip in on and how much.
- Your phone: a notification token if you allow notifications.
- Beta and helper sign-ups: your name, email and anything you tell us on the website form.
What other people see
On a bill you post, people see your first name, town or city, household size, your note, the supplier, the amounts and the last four characters of your reference. They never see your surname, address, email, full reference or the photo. The people you get help from are shown to you only as "a Bill Pal member" or their town.
Why we use it
- To run your account and sign you in (to provide the service you asked for).
- To check bills are real before they go live, and to stop fraud (our legitimate interest in keeping Bill Pal safe).
- To send you sign-in codes and notifications about your bills.
- To contact you about the beta or helping, if you signed up for that.
Information about money trouble can be sensitive. We only use it to run Bill Pal, and we never sell it or use it for advertising.
Who processes it for us
Our servers and database run on Cloudflare. Sign-in emails are sent by Resend. Apple delivers notifications and runs Sign in with Apple. When real payments are switched on, a regulated payment provider will handle them, and we will update this page first.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while you use it. If you delete your account in the app, we remove your email and name and take down any open bill. We keep records of bills and payments for as long as the law requires for fraud prevention and accounting.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, or object to how we use it, by contacting us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Testing
Bill Pal is in testing. No real money moves yet, and the example bills in the app are not real people.
